Our main webservers run Zeus Webserver software on Red Hat Linux. Zeus Webserver is a high-performance http serving solution with an excellent security history.

Red Hat Linux is the market-leading distribution of the open-source Linux operating system in Europe. Between Red Hat's excellent after-market support and the open-source community's same-hour response times to security issues Linux continues to be one of the most secure options for internet-visible servers.

All of Guernsey.Net's servers are protected by Checkpoint Firewall-1 running on Solaris 7. The firewall filters access to the webserver so that only the 'intended audience' can get to it. It also provides second-level authentication for FTP file transfers when uploading website contents.

Additional security is available in the form of an SSL/TLS certificate. This would mean your website has it's own Internet Protocol (IP) address, and a Secure Sockets Layer / Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) Certificate provided by Thawte Consulting.

Together, these measures provide two key security benefits: firstly, visitors to the non-public portions of the website can use the 'digital signature' embedded in the certificate to verify that the content they are seeing is genuinely coming from the correct webserver, not a 'man in the middle' impostor. This authentication is made possible because of validation through Thawte Consulting themselves.

The second benefit of the certificate is that it enables transfer encryption - that is, information passing between the webserver and the client's browser is encrypted so no intermediary party can read the contents.
