In the event of a communications failure in either one, your website will be served from the other seamlessly. The cluster in each island contains a dually redundant load-balancing front-end supported by a pool of back-end webserver's and dedicated database and file servers. Only the front-end machines are visible to the outside world, making your important data that much more secure.
