| Avena barbata | Poaceae | Slender Oat |
Description - A graceful grass, usually taller and paler than Barren Brome, up to 60cm high, with well-space florets, in flower from mid-June to mid July.
Habitat - It grows in coastal grassland, in sandy, poor soil, often on the road verges.
Comments - This grass was first noted in1970 in the L'Erée area, and is still best seen there along the shingle bank. Over the last thirty years it has spread all up the west coast. It was probably brought in in a grain mixture, and found the island to its liking.
