|Bupleurum baldense||Apiaceae||Small Hare's-ear|
Description - This must be our smallest umbellifer, reaching 3 cm at most. It is a tiny green plant, and with good eyesight or a good hand lens you will just be able to make out the minute yellow flowers in the centre of brownish bracts, providing you have assumed the correct position i.e. hands and knees! Never you mind what the saner members of society think when they see you thus engrossed, it is well worth looking for!
Habitat - Very short coastal turf.
Comments - Only two known sites in mainland Britain, both on the south coast. Here it is uncommon at best, although may be overlooked. Port Soif, L'Ancresse and Herm Common are the best places to search.
