|Cyathus striatus||Nidulariaceae||Fluted Bird's Nest|
Cyathus striatus, Fluted Bird's Nest. Bird's Nest fungi are beautiful little things which are delightful to examine closely. This species consists of a fluted cup 'the nest' with three or four spore masses inside 'the eggs'. The eggs are attached by a thread to the rim of the nest and are splashed out by drops of rain falling into the nest. They are sometimes found in enormous numbers on wood chip mulch on garden beds. These were on leaf litter at Saumarez Park.
