Dianthus armeria Caryophyllaceae Deptford Pink

Dianthus armeria 24kb

Description - The flower is a beautiful deep pink with paler spots and blue stamens.

Habitat - On stabilised sand dunes

Comments - A very rare plant in Guernsey; there is a population near Doyle Rock on L'Ancresse Common. It used to be found on the cliffs N of Fermain Bay. This is a declining species in England, probably because of the conversion of pasture to arable farming.
