| Echium vulgare | Boraginaceae | Viper's Bugloss |
Description - A stiff spike of flowers reaches to 50-60cm, flowers a bright blue, and buds pink. The leaves are lanceolate, grey-green, and covered in prickly bristles.
Habitat - Sand dunes. It grows best on basic soils, whereas our sand is mostly derived from acid rock. There is a pocket of shell-sand (similar to that on Herm) at Pembroke, also at Port Soif, but there are no records for this plant from there.
Comments - The main location for this plant is on Herm Common. It rarely occurs in the north Guernsey, at Bordeaux, and at Pembroke.
