| Eryngium maritimum | Apiaceae | Sea Holly |
| Close up | Shell Beach, Herm |

Description - A very prickly bluey-green plant with blue flowers in summer
Habitat - In short turf and open areas on sand dunes
Comments - This plant is very prickly to sit on, but has beautiful blue flowers, very attractive to bees and other insects, that make up for that. In the 60s it became rare in Guernsey due partly to the excavation of sand dunes for building sand. It is now getting commoner and is abundant in the growing dunes at Shell Beach in Herm
