| Iris pseudacorus | Iridaceae | Yellow Flag Iris |
Description - This is a handsome plant, admired by visitors and locals alike. The bright yellow Iris flowers open in June, and the long narrow, pointed leaves are light green. It grows more than a metre in height, and is often in large clumps.
Habitat - It likes really damp roots, so is found in the wettest corner of fields, in streams, and in shallow ponds.
Comments - This is fairly common island-wide, wherever it is wet enough. It is rather vigorous, as you will find out if you attempt to introduce it into your garden pond – be prepared for a take-over!
