Lotus subbiflorus Fabaceae Hairy Bird's-foot Trefoil

Lotus subbiflorus 14kb

Description - This looks like a small Bird's-foot Trefoil, with flowers half the size, and fewer per head, although still with orange buds. However as the name suggests, the whole plant is covered in hairs, giving it quite a grey look.

Habitat - usually in coastal grassland, path edges and also in heathy areas.

Comments - This little plant is quite frequent in the island, mainly around the coast. On mainland Britain it is confined to the extreme south-west.
