Description - A small ,delicate, dark green liverwort that has the sides of its thallus only one cell thick
Habitat - Very comon forming mats on tree trunks and over damp rocks on the cliffs
Comments - A dark green patch on a tree trunk is usually this species. In very wet areas, in trees growing next to streams or ponds, another species M. fruticulosa is found that has special thin branches covered with gemmae.
