|Orobanche purpurea||Orobanchaceae||Yarrow Broomrape|
Description - An attractive Broomrape, with dark purple flowers, and pinkish stem. The spike reaches about 30cm but is usually much shorter. There are three bracts surrounding each flower, which will separate it from other Broomrapes.
Habitat - Usually found in coastal grassland,with its host, Yarrow.
Comments - A very rare plant in Guernsey and on the British mainland. We tend to see one every 5 years or so, always in different locations. However, it is much commoner in Alderney.
