| Solanum nigrum | Solanaceae | Black Nightshade |
Description - Black Nightshade is usually a low-growing plant of up to 25cm, but can sometimes be found several feet high in cultivated fields. Flowers are white and just like a Potato flower, which is the same family, although on a smaller scale. It is the berriesd which give it its name, as they turn from green to purplish-black when ripe. Although a Nightshade, this plant will not kill you, but may give you a bad tummy-ache if you ate an awful lot of berries.
Habitat - A weed of gardens, wasteland and agricultural fields.
Comments - Common island-wide.
