Dolmen

Le Creux es Faies - passage grave.

Situated on the north side of the road to L'Eree promontory and Lihou Island.

The remains of a round mound, originally 18 metres in diameter are now sadly reduced. The stones
visible at the north side may be repositioned from the original kerb surround. The chamber is of megalithic build with a narrow entrance expanding to a round-ended chamber. Two inner capstones survive, but it can be safely assumed that the remainder of the structure was originally roofed.

Excavations by Lukis in 1840 retrieved a few human and animal bones, a quantity of Beaker pottery and two barbed and tanged flint arrowheads. All the dateable material is for the period c 2000 - 1800BC, but this may represent only final activities on the site.
