Dear Elector,

I am a 45 year old Guernseyman, married with five children. I have 24 years commercial and financial business experience. I work in the financial services industry and am responsible for the local Allied Dunbar operation. I have served as a St Peter Port People's Deputy for 6 years. I currently serve on the States Telecommunications Board where there have been recent innovations such as GSM. Also, as a Member of the States Recreation Committee I have been pleased that my efforts to reduce entry charges at Beau Sejour have been successful.

GOVERNMENT.

I support the stability of our independent system but also support sensible change to see us into the 21st century. I believe a broader representation of our population in the States would make our system more democratic, effective and accountable.

ECONOMY.

The likelihood of a change in the U.K. Government for the first time in 18 years and the thorny question of the Single European Currency are examples of international issues which demonstrate why there will be a need for people with my kind of experience to help with the inevitable effect on the Guernsey economy and government. It is vital to ensure that the Financial Sector continues its substantial contribution to our economy. It is also important to support sensible measures which enable the Tourist, Rentier, Horticulture, Agriculture, Fishing, Light Industrial, Retail and other sectors to play their valuable parts in maintaining the balanced and prosperous economy that we need to improve our Overall Standard of Living, Income Tax Allowances, Child Allowances, Old Age Pensions, Health Care, Education, Sport, Recreation, Art and Craft facilities. Continued effective monitoring of our income and expenditure requirements will help achieve these objectives.

A UNITED GUERNSEY.

I have worked against divisive trends in our society and believe that with the right leadership we can move forward into the future as a united Guernsey with more fairness, equality and prosperity for all.

ALDERNEY.

Part of the Bailiwick, needs to be treated more fairly than in the past and Alderney residents with the relevant States experience should not be precluded from standing for Conseiller. My record in the States is one of consistently speaking up for Alderney's interests.

CARING.

My record in the States shows that I am interested in the welfare of all people in our community and endeavour to help those who are genuinely poor, disadvantaged or neglected. The lack of resources for the long term care of the ELDERLY is all too apparent. Increasingly a larger, elderly population is becoming ever more dependent on a smaller, younger population to support them. We must plan properly now, so that the care of the elderly is considered more seriously. Conversely I will continue to support positive measures to help the YOUTH of the Island.

LAW and ORDER.

I support the continued safeguarding our Island from violence, crime and drug abuse.

EDUCATION.

As a father with young children I believe that it is essential to invest more money in education to ensure that we equitably cater for all our children, from Nursery to Higher Education.

HOUSING.

This has occupied a great deal of my time over the past 6 years and I am still dismayed that some people are still not properly housed. I am determined to work for continued improvement in all areas of housing.

WOMEN'S RIGHTS.

I have supported moves to allow women to be treated more equally and continue to work for statutory maternity leave, tax relief on child care and better nursery education.

ENVIRONMENT, TRAFFIC and PARKING.

I was actively involved in these matters long before I became a States Member. Our rural areas must be generally preserved, but the IDC must exercise more flexibility. Conversely, the IDC is allowing too much crowded building in certain areas, ruining the environment. I continue to campaign for improvement on traffic, school traffic, parking and resident's parking problems and there is a great deal more to do. I will still strive for further improved bus services which affect all aspects of Island life as well as Tourism. I shall also carry on pressurising the States to take a more responsible attitude to our environment, particularly with regard to re-cycling, refuse disposal, energy conservation and sensible use of water and landfill resources. I support the formation of an Environmental Committee. A major necessity is investment in a modern sewage disposal system and an end to the dumping of raw sewage at sea.

WORKING FOR YOU INTO THE 21st CENTURY.

Since being elected as a Deputy I have striven to work hard for the electorate in a conscientious, committed and responsible manner. I believe in serving the people and for the past 6 years I have organised the successful Island People's Meetings for the public to give their views on what is going to be debated in the States. It is not possible to be right on every occassion, but it is possible to try to do the right thing and have the best intentions and best interests of the Island at heart. I am NOT a "Yes Man" and refuse to go along with anything which is not in the public interest. My attendance and voting record at States Meetings has been close to 100% and I have fully played my part in the debates. I have worked hard, taking up many issues for Islanders and believe I have the drive and enthusiasm to continue to work hard for you.

It is important that Conseillers are actively involved in our community. I am a member of a number of local business, charitable and political bodies. I have a wife and young children so I am in touch on FAMILY ISSUES. I am standing for Conseiller because I feel having an Island wide mandate may assist me in being elected as a Committee President. This will enable me to put my business and other experience to good use. I believe that I can offer the ability, the dedication and the integrity to help plan to lead our Bailiwick into the 21st Century. If you wish to continue to improve our quality of government, Please do me the honour of electing me as a Conseiller.

Yours sincerely
