What is the course about?
The course builds on knowledge and skills developed at GCSE. You will develop
and use practical skills to investigate chemistry. Chemical problems will be
solved using mathematics and concepts. Basic topics such as atomic structure
and bonding will be studied in more detail and new topics will be introduced.
Which skills and experience would be useful or essential?
We recommend that you achieve at least a B grade in GCSE Double Award Science
or Chemistry and in Mathematics. You should be
well-organised and enjoy practical work.
How will I learn and be assessed?
You will be actively involved in individual and group work and the approach
will encourage questioning and problem solving.
Assessment will be through both written and practical tests.
What opportunities are available to me?
Chemistry is an essential subject for careers involving chemistry, chemical
engineering, medicine, veterinary science, dentistry and pharmacy and it is
desirable for many other related careers.
