What is the course about?
The course builds on your experience and enjoyment of film. You already have
the advanced skills and knowledge needed as you have been watching films all
your life. In this course, you will learn how to use that knowledge to understand
the world of film. Whether it’s writing about films, learning how they
are made, marketed, how they have mesmerised audiences for over a century -
right down to engaging in practical skills of filmmaking - this course is a
great way to learn!
Which skills and/experience would be useful or essential?
A grade C in GCSE English is recommended but not essential. You should enjoy
analysing and discussing films and be prepared to write about them at length
and in detail. You will need to develop research skills and detailed analysis
both independently and in small groups.
How will I learn and be assessed?
Enthusiastic questioning and discussion is strongly encouraged. You will be
actively involved in analysing films and some creative practical work. Assessment
will be through analytical essays, creative coursework and written exams.
