THEATRE STUDIES
What is the course about?
The course is based on four main areas of study of Drama and Theatre; interpretation
of plays for performance, theatre practitioners, live productions seen and
the candidates’ own practical work. At A2 students are expected to make
more links between theory & practice in order to develop a deeper understanding
of theatre.
Which skills & experience would be useful or essential?
As part of the course students will need to be able to work productively individually
and as part of a group on practical projects in preparation for performance
exams: scripted and devised.
They will need to contribute to class discussion, research and analyse their set texts and develop their essay response for the written exam.
How will I learn and be assessed?
Through individual and group practical work on devised and scripted work,
class discussion, in groups and pairs, individual research and analysis and
through seeing a variety of live theatre productions.
Costs: There is a field trip to the National Student Drama Festival. Whilst a generous subsidy is provided to cover the majority of the costs students still have to fund the rest of the trip which is approximately £300.00
