Events: Oct 2006 - Dec 2006

• Danielle Hirst from Les Beaucamps joined us for a weeks work experience based with Sarah Nicolle in the Art Department
• Simon Thompson from Falmouth Art College visited the Art Dept to help students and give a workshop
• International Week was launched by Kieran James which included lessons, displays, competition and assemblies on an international theme, a visit from Dr Sarah Fane of the Afghan Connection, and an international film festival. A world map was displayed showing where members of the school community had lived or visited.
School is now twinned with Zaiwallat School which is in the Wardak Province south of Kabal which has 1300 pupils aged 4 to 20
• It was suggested that, as last year, a communal Christmas Card would be placed in the staffroom for staff to sign, in lieu of sending individual cards, with a donation to charity being made by everyone signing the card - £76.50 sent to Special Care Baby Unit PEH
• December launch of the Extended Study Project aimed at our most gifted and talented students.
• Keith Brown, PGCE Student, joins the Maths department for a days observation.
• Launch of the Sixth Form Centre Newsletter – The Tomato Source.
• The annual Carol Service took place with the collections being split between Help a Guernsey Child, Starlight Children’s Foundation and Action Aid - £252.74 to each charity.
• Speech Day took place with the Guest of Honour, Mr Geoffrey Rowland, Bailiff of Guernsey

Student Achievements

• Alice Loveridge, Bethant Pipet, Matthew Stubbington, Oliver Langlois, and Adam Langlois are selected to play tabletennis for Guernsey in the Portugal Open
• Lieutenant Governor’s Cadets were awarded their badges at a Government House presentation they were:- Nikita Le Sauvage (9th Gsy St Matthew’s Rainbow), Will Jowitt (TS Sarnia Sea Cadets), Melissa Hanson Gsy Army Cadet Force) and Francoise Lihou (Phoenix Division of St John Ambulance)
• Alice Loveridge competed in the Junior Four Star Table Tennis Tournament in Stockton on Tees. She won the U18, U13 and graded open tournament
• Caroline Kyle Y8 won Island wide Keigh Gray Competition for writing and Philippa Halliday Y8 was placed 2nd
• Melissa Hanson Y12 chosen as The Lions Club Young Ambassador for 2006
• Gareth Banton takes part in the Irish Open U15 Squash championship
• Sasha Duquemin represents the school at the inaugural Rotary Young Chef competition for which she received a certificate and medal.
• Groups of students take part in Collins Stewart Hot Stocks competition

Staffing

• Emir Ellis (Maths Department) returns to UK as his father is ill and we cover his post from within school and with the help of Mr Brian Fox (supply teacher)
• Jennifer Kemph returns to Australia for approximately 3 weeks with cover supplied by Dee Dee Morgan
• Malcolm O’Donnell is appointed as a teacher of Mathematics to start in January. He joins us from Australia

Links and Charity Collections

• School Christmas Fayre raises a record amount of over £10,500
• Poppy Appeal raises £314.34 from collections within school
• Children in Need raises £2777.22

Events: Jan - Feb 2007

• Year 10 Geography students organise whole school collection of used stamps for Christian Aid
• Simon Bradshaw who is currently completing his PhD at Melbourne University addressed Geography and Environmental Science Sixthformers about the impacts of Global Warming
• Moving forward with the Access Data Base which is now furnished with student grades
• Intermediate Team take part in The Rotary ClubYouth Speaks at St James and Torryn Armstrong won the trophy for the best Chairperson
• Play on Words visit for GCSE and A Level group work

Student Achievements

• Oliver Langlois Y9 accepted on to the British Table Tennis Federation’s ID programme. The scheme identifies and nurtures players between 12 – 14 years old who may be able to represent Great Britain in 2012
• Jade Farrell has been selected from hundreds of applicants to take part in a 4 week youth expedition in the Amazon rainforest
• Matthew Loaring attends 2 weeks football trials at Watford FC and also Grimsby Town FC
• Chris Martel and Ali Campbell both awarded a 3 year Bursary from Ernst and Young
• Lucy Bourgaize and Leanne Le Poidevin win a singing competition with Guides and progress to the South West Regional Competition
• James Chapple joins the Elite Squad within the British Youth Sailing Squad and is also selected for the British TS Squad for the Laser Standard boat which is the Olympic class for men
• Alice Loveridge won the U13 girls’ Liverpool Four Star Junior Open and made the U18 girls’ semi-final
• Oliver Langlois and Alice Loveridge attend European Training Camp in the Czech Republic for U14’s and also Derby 4 star Tournament with Adam Langlois
• At the Sporting Achievement Awards for 2006 Alice Loveridge won NSEW Monthly Achievement award overall winner. Darren Konken won the Motorsport Trophy for his Karting prowess
• 16 students represent Guernsey in the Netball Inter-insulars held at Beau Sejour
• Emma Shell, Caroline Eddie, Emily Best and Lucy Sharratt represent U15 girls CI hockey team in the West Counties Tournament
• Jonathan Loaring, Matt Loaring, Robbie Titterington, Miles Pengelley and Tom de Garis represent Guernsey in the South West Counties U18 Championship Football Cup in the UK
