MY FAMILY TREE
There are many
branches of the Lihou family, but all seem to have origins based in Guernsey.
However there is some evidence which links the family name with French origins,
the church of Notre-Dame at Granville (see picture) is one example. My family
trees shown here are typical of others that are available. Many are incomplete
or lack information because of the difficulty in tracing records of a bygone
age. In spite of errors etc the Lihou family have been associated with Guernsey
for a very long time. The most famous Lihou was Captain John Lihou who
discovered Lihou reef on the Great Barrier reef in Australia and who has Port
Lihou in W. Australia named after him. He
was also famous for inventing a type of rudder, which could be repaired at sea.
He was the nephew of Admiral Sir James de Suamarez another old Guernsey Family;
