Organisation and Equipment of No 205 Group.

February 1944 — May 1945

231 Wing:
37 Squadron. Equipped with Wellington Xs and operating from Tortorella, re-equipping with Liberator VIs in October 1944.
70 Squadron. Equipped with Wellington Xs at Tortorella, re-equipping with Liberator VIs in January 1945.

236 Wing:
40 Squadron. Equipped with Wellington Xs at Foggia Main, re-equipping with Liberator VIs in March 1945.
104 Squadron. Equipped with Wellington Xs at Foggia Main until February 1945, then re-equipping with Liberator VIs.

240 Wing:
178 Squadron. Equipped with Liberator VIs throughout the period, initially operating from El Adem, moving to Celone in March 1944 and on to Amendola
in July.
462 Squadron. Operating Halifax IIs at Celone until renamed 614 Squadron on 3 March 1944.
614 Squadron. Renamed from 462 Squadron and moving to Stonara on 10 May 1944 and finally joining 178 Squadron at Amendola on 15 July. Halifaxes were operated throughout, but Liberator VIs were also taken on strength from August 1944. The primary task of this unit was to act as ‘pathfinders’ for 205 Group.

330 Wing:
142 Squadron. Equipped with Wellington Xs at Cerignola, moving to Amendola on 14 February 1944 and finally to Regina on 3 July. On 5 October 330 Wing was disbanded, the unit returning to the United Kingdom to re­-equip with Mosquitoes.
150 Squadron. History similar to 142 Squadron (above). On arrival in the United Kingdom it became a Lancaster unit.

2 (SAAF) Wing:
31 and 34 (SAAF) Squadrons. Joined 205 Group in June 1944. Both equipped with Liberator VIs and operating from Celone.
