For those who demand distinctive style and responsive performance, the Rover Coupé has a definite attraction. A car which will reward the enthusiast.

Both the Rover 220 and 216 Coupés are based on the Rover 200 Series model, with a 2 door coupé body and a T-Bar roof. They can seat 4 adults in comfort (as long as the rear seat passengers aren't six footers). The Coupé is commonly referred to by the name "Tomcat". I read this somewhere "it resembles a cat crouched ready to pounce".

During 1993 the front was updated and a chrome grille added, it is however, possible to fit the chrome grille on earlier models. More updates to follow were drivers airbag, side impact beams and seatbelt pre-tensioners. The interior was revised on post 1996 models. This consisted of coloured seats and a newer dashboard.

There are 3 engine sizes available, although the specifications have changed quite dramatically during the years of production, as detailed below:-

1992 - 1995 1.6 Honda single cam derived engine producing 109bhp
1995 - 1998 1.6 Rover K-Series engine producing 111bhp
1992 - 1996 2.0 Rover M16 engine producing 140bhp
1992 - 1996 2.0 Turbo engine producing 200bhp
1996 - 1998 1.8 Rover VVC (Variable Valve Control) engine producing 140bhp

The Rover 2.0 Turbo Coupé was one of the most powerful production Rovers ever built. It's also one of the most entertaining Rovers to drive. Sadly the Rover Coupe Turbo is no more !! I know many will be sad to see it go.
