Moaner : Female Feral, Very frightened of humans. When she arrived at the Sanctuary she shivered with fear, after being kept in a cage for six months. She remained with us although very frightened she took food and water only after we had left. After about 3 months she allowed us to watch her but still ran away if we got any where near her. We called her Moaner because as she eats she moans, when she's walking along her tongue sticks out and she mumbles to herself. One day she caught cat flue very bad, as the sanctuary has no money and the local protection charities have a policy that prohibits veterinary fees for feral cats, we had to let nature take its course. On the fourth day we found her unable to walk, sneezing a lot wheezing with green mucus coming out of her nose she was in such a state, she had given up her proud stance and stopped eating waiting for death. As we put her in the uncompleted new part of the unit she looked at us with a look of hate and managed to struggle a slight hiss. We lit the fire and placed her next to it with water and a basket with blankets. The next day we went back expecting the worst only to find she had moved into the basket and made herself comfortable. The next task was to get her to eat and drink, she would not eat anything but she did drink the water. I asked a vet for free advice which was to have her put down, as we had no money to do this we decided to persevere and let nature take its course. On the 5th day I cooked some fish and offered it to her, she tasted a bit but left it. I purchased some special high protein food from the vet which she eat. This started her recovery she eat all the tins over the next three days. On the forth day she was back on her feet and using the stool tray. The sixth day saw her out side with the other cats, but strangely she would come in and sit in her basket by the fire. Then three weeks after the first signs of the flue she refused to come in and started eating the normal food she is now back to full self confident and hissing at us. |
