Full Length South Park Episodes in RealVideo
If you are in the Uk, like me, you will probably have realised while surfing on the big web that we are quite a bit behind in our episodes, and it can be frustrating that you dont want to look through the many South Park web pages or message boards for fear of ruining your future South Park experiences.
There is something you can do about this though!
Using the magical new RealPlayer, made by RealNetworksTM you can stay up to date with your South Park viewing, allowing you to become one of the internet South Park community!
The full-length South Park episodes can be downloaded off the internet at many sites on the internet, but the easiest way to find working download sites is at Andyland's South Park Realvideo Search Engine (http://www.andyland.org/southpark/index.html)

But if you are a newbie to RealVideo, then let me explain a few things you need to know...

What you will need...

1. A decent computer (Pentium 166 at the very least)
2. A pretty reliable internet connection:
The faster the modem, the better, but also you have to have an internet connection that stays connected for a long time!
On a 28.8 modem a very good quality video can take about 4 hours!!!!
Do not do anything else on the computer to ensure optimum speed.
3. You will need to download the latest version of RealPlayer, from www.real.com
4. Patience...... it takes time!

It is also a good idea to have some kind of data storage device such as a Zip Drive or Cd-Writer. Although storing them on your hard drive is fine, it can take up a lot of space if you collect alot of them.

Know what you are downloading...

RealVideo files are advantageous for use on the internet because they are compressed in a similar way to .jpg pictures. When people encode RealVideo files they have to think about how they are going to distribute the file, eg. on a cd, on a disk, through the internet. This is why the RealVideo files you usually find on the internet are relatively low quality, and a 30 minute file could only be 5mb big (whereas a normal movie file such as .avi or .mov would be considerably larger). However, since there is such a large demand for high quality South Park RealVideo files, some people are starting to encode them at a higher quality. It is important that you know what kind of quality you are downloading, so that you are not disappointed. The quality of a RealVideo file is measured in Kbsp. You can tell what the quality of a file is by what it says in the status bar, as shown to the left.

Here are some examples of different qualities:

This is a 34.0Kbps file, notice that it is not very sharp, and the image size is quite small
These are usually only around 6MB big for a 22 minute video.
This is a 96.0Kbps file, notice that it is sharper, and in a larger window
These are usually around 15MB big for a 22 minute video
This is a 228.3Kbps file, notice that is is the same size as 96.0Kbps but much, much more detailed and sharp.
A typical 22 minute, 228.3Kbps file is 32MB big! Its a good idea to just leave it downloading and do something off the computer while one of these suckers are downloading
And Finally...

Once you have your episode downloaded on to your computer you can fiddle around with the size of the window using the button. Using this you can select either Normal, Double of Full Screen views, although the quality of the file determines at which setting it is best viewed.

Please don't send me any technical questions, everything i can tell you is on this site. If you do have technical questions though, i suggest visiting the Experts Exchange

Don't forget though, that the only way to see the episodes in their full glory is to watch them on TV!
