Basically, South Park was created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker. They both did a series of cartoons in a very new style.... at first the characters were cardboard cutouts, and pretty cheezy really, but when they began using computers to make their cartoons the style was kept basically the same. This un-complex style is one of the things that makes it so original... If you look, there isn't really that much actual animation and movement, most of the jokes are in the dialogue, or what the different characters look like. I find this gives South Park a certain degree of charm, it just wouldn't be right if it was more sophisticatedly drawn! The English series Monty Python's Flying Circus has been a great influence to Matt and Trey. When Monty Python was first aired, many years ago, people reacted to it in a similar way to how some people are reacting to South Park (in the Uk at least), they were offended by many of the scetches. In a way South Park is the "Monty Python" of today, and some people dismiss it as immature toilet humour, which is totally wrong. These people clearly do not watch the episodes closely enough to realise that it is very well written. | ||

What makes the show so different is that the characters have views, although in some cases they are pretty screwed-up. Cartman is the main example of a screwed-up kid, but he does have many views, although i personally doubt he really understands all the views he promotes. The 4 main foul-mouthed characters: Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny appeared in two short animations before the actual series began. In these early episodes the language is uncensored, whereas in the actual series the swearing is censored and less offensive insults are used.
