About

The States of Guernsey sewage dept was formed back in the early 1900s but was called then THE STATES SANITATION DEPT,They had two trucks then a Halley and a Dennis the Halley truck was make up in Yoker nr Glasgow,
The truck was a 30cwt 4x2 office ( Halley W ) 4cyl 25hp,4F1R WB 1, Chassis length and width 17'5X6.0 made by Halley Indusrial Motors of Yoker glasgow, they produced this subsidy chassis for the WD and for civilian operators during the early and mid 1920s.
Then the States of guernsey bought a Dennis truck and the rest is history and over the years the States have bought many makes of truck some good and some rubbish and we now also use 1500gal tankers.
and for some reason back in 1930 the amount of loads were Halley 142 and the Dennis did 787 and in 1931 Halley 240 and the Dennis 852

So far since the States Works have taken us over they have managed to stop our truck cleaning money and because of it, our trucks have never looked so bad, mechanics keep complaining about all the dirt underside if they are not happy then get the people who stopped our dosh go and clean them.It has been said that when they stopped the payment someone had a brand new office chair.Someone thinks more of his backside than our trucks..

The things some drivers do for charity

ur dept have done quite a few things for charity like we used to do the swim at Beau Sejour and we have also collected pennies at one of the Norht Shows, and one or two drivers have been in the north show in various guises. We used to have five a side team which did very well and we also had a darts team in the darts league which we won one year.

We also had a thriving social club many years ago called The Golden Eagles Social clu but that fell by the wayside now.

Guess who?? he he, bet you thought it was Jimi Hendrix
well you would be wrong GUESS WHO

This is our yard on the north end of the island as you can see we still have
plenty of trucks to carry the sewage around the island
