Fir Tree Chalet is registered with the States of Guernsey Tourist Board and is classified as Three Stars. fir1.jpg (164247 bytes)

The chalet is located in a rural area on the west coast of the island with the longest beach, Vazon, only a minute's walk away. The location is quiet yet still convenient for all the facilities and amenities that the island has to offer. Situated near the main house, the chalet overlooks the garden and the open country beyond.

A lobby (1.5m by 1.5m) leads from the front door into the lounge. There are coat hooks and sufficient space for outdoor shoes to be stored.

The lounge / diner is 5.5m long by 3m wide with sideboard, dining table and chairs at one end and a colour TV, radio, coin operated payphone [telephone number 01481 257039], settee, easy chairs and coffee table at the other. The settee converts to a double bed when 3 or 4 people are staying. French windows at the lounge end overlook the garden (approx. 60m by 20m) and the adjacent open countryside.

On the right of the dining area is a walk-in cupboard where spare linen, duvets, pillows and towels, iron and board, vacuum cleaner and clothes airer are stored.

Off the dining area is an enclosed kitchen with  light wood cupboards and work surfaces, electric oven and hob, microwave, extractor hood, fridge and sink unit. Cutlery, glasses, Denby crockery,  filter coffee maker and cooking utensils are provided.

A short corridor leads from the dining area to the shower room which is fitted with a toilet, H & C handbasin, and a fully tiled shower cubicle. Towels are provided.

The bedroom (3.7m by 3m) is off the lounge and contains a double bed, dressing table, a double and a single wardrobe and bedside table. Bed linen and duvets are provided. The window overlooks the garden and provides the same views as through the lounge window.

Heating in the chalet is provided by a storage heater in the lounge / diner and a mobile convection heater in the bedroom. However the chalet is well insulated and double glazed, and has shown to be snug even in the coldest weather. Similarly it does not become over hot when high summer temperatures occur.

The chalet is fully carpeted except for the kitchen which has a tiled floor.

Laundry facilities are available in Windy Ridge.  Talk to Celia and she will organise things for you.

The chalet has its own garden but you are welcome to make use of the whole garden if you like. The main garden leads down to a douit ('stream' to those who do not know the local Guernsey French language). There is a set of four garden chairs, a table and umbrella for you to be able to enjoy the rural scenery.

There is a car-parking space outside the chalet and driving on the island is fairly relaxed with a maximum speed limit of 35 miles per hour though some of the roads are quite narrow.  A bus stop is just on the main road outside the property with regular buses around the island and to St. Peter Port.  The current flat rate fare is 60p.

The longest beach on the island is just across the road; due to the limited parking this end of the beach is never very busy. Swimming is safe at all stages of the tide. Due to the large tidal ranges the Channel Islands experience, the walk down to the water at low tide is about 100m though remember that at high tide the water is within 10m of the steps that take you onto the golden sands of Vazon Bay.

For convenience shopping there is a Co-op shop about 1 mile away along Vazon beach and a mini-market at Perelle beach petrol station which is about 1 mile in the other direction.

Eating out on the island can provide good value at inexpensive prices; we suggest that you buy the local daily paper (The Guernsey Press) and look for the special offers. Among our favourites are the Victoriana bar at the Atlantique Hotel about 1 mile from the chalet,  the Imperial Hotel at Rocquaine and the Bon Port Hotel on the south coast cliffs for the food and the views.
